Have you heard about our new monthly event?!?! So we just celebrated our first birthday and Angie and I were talking about how much we love our jobs, our customers, and the town we live in. We were trying to think of something that we could do to make a little difference in the world. We came up with The Canvas Cares! On the first Wednesday of every month we will recognize one of our fabulous local non-profit groups at our regular 6:30 class. The class will be open to the public and go on just like every other night but we will donate $10 for paid painter of the evening to the non-profit! We think it is a great way to let people come out and have a fun evening painting and also do a little good deed at the same time! Watch our calendar to see who we are honoring each month and come down and paint!
Our first non-profit is Boone County Animal Care and we are so excited to have them tomorrow night!
We hope to see everyone down in the studio and be watching for a ton of new paintings to come out for the summer calendars!
Well, I have definitely been delinquent in my blog posts! Please forgive me! We have successfully made it through the thick of winter and the last 2 snow storms and now if the huge piles of dirty snow would melt we might be able to see spring on the horizon! With spring comes tons of new paintings! Since we have been couped up because of bad weather Angie and I have spent a lot of time coming up with new ideas! The March and April calendar have at least 10 new paintings on them and we have even more in the works! We have done a couple new ones already in classes and I have seen some beautiful work done by our customers! We know that everyone is probably just as stir crazy as we are and what better of a way to get out and about then to come and paint! Make a reservation and come on in! Our 1 year anniversary is coming up and I promise you we will have some specials so make sure to watch for our newsletter!
Halloween is a favorite in my house. My daughter Sammy has loved Halloween more than any other holiday since she was a little girl. We celebrate it all month long and usually go through multiple costumes as the month progresses. This is our first Halloween at The Canvas so we are doing it up right! We have already had a couple of classes with Halloween inspired paintings and you will notice that as the month goes on there are plenty more chances to paint a spooky painting! I like to decorate for this ghoulish holiday and what better type of decoration is there than a painting you made yourself?!? I think Halloween is a favorite for lots of people, after all, what other day/week/month do you get to eat all the candy you want without judgement?!?! Bring on the Snickers Bars….The Canvas is ready for trick-or-treating and paintings for the festivities!
Birthday bashes…we are loving that The Canvas has become a hot spot for birthday parties! We have had boys and girls of all ages (and even some grown up boys and girls too!). Let me take a second to thank everyone who has already had a birthday party with us…Thank you! If you haven’t had one with us, let me tell you, you are missing out! Our birthday parties are the best! We provide the locations, the entertainment, and most inportantly….the clean up! All you do is bring a cake and sit back and relax (you can even have a glass of wine while the munchkins paint!). We have each birthday kid pre-pick their group painting so they get to plan their own gig and we can even personalize it for the day too! Since Angie and I are really big kids at heart we really enjoy birthday parties, I think our party kids end up with some fantastic paintings! If you have questions or want to hear more about our birthday parties give us a ring or shoot us an email, but don’t wait til the last minute to make your reservation…we are loving that the party times are filling up nicely this month!
Can’t wait to see you in the studio…Trick-or-Treat!
With fall in Columbia come lots of activites! We have started our venture into the SEC with Mizzou football! Go Tigers! We get to enjoy the Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival this weekend. Our local schools are planning their Fall Festivals and our downtown district has concerts, and art events, and street parties galore! Angie and I love being right in the middle of it all! We have met some awesome people as they venture through our downtown area and we are so excited to meet more!
We know that Columbia is such a great place to live becuase it gives us so many activities to take part in and we want everyone to experience everything! Don’t forget, if your downtown for a game or festival or even dinner with friends you can still stop in at The Canvas for a beer or glass of wine. You can even sit at the bar and “Paint a Mini” for just $5! We also offer “Open Studio” painting any time we are open for $15-20! We understand that you can’t come down and take class every night (although we would love it if you did!) but you can add The Canvas on Broadway to your list of watering hole establishments and we promise to offer a bit of artistic entertainment and we will even play the Mizzou games for you to watch! And hey, you will get to see Angie and me!
Meet me at the bar…I’ll have the beverages cold and the canvas ready!
Okay ladies and gentelmen, we are hosting an event at The Canvas on Broadway next week in conjusction with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure! We are going to have a painting class on September 12 at 6:30. The painting is brand new! The evening includes painting and instruction, 2 drinks, and snacks with 50% of each painters cost going to Susan G. Komen Mid-Missouri Affiliate! How much more fun can you ask for while giving to a great cause! You can sign up for the class on our regular website calendar. I hope to see each and every one of you there!
Today Angie and I set up a tent on Lowrey Mall on the University of Missouri campus. No, we didn’t just set up a tent and camp out, we participated in the annual Business Fair! We spent a little time people watching, a little time reminiscing about our college days, and a lot of time promoting The Canvas! There were a bunch of different businesses out there and a bunch of free food and snacks and a whole lot of coupons and give away type stuff. We had a blast! We talked to a bunch of students who hadn’t heard of us yet and we were visited by a bunch of people who have been in and snatched up some of our coupons. We hope that we got everyone pumped up to come down and paint!
All in all, it was hot outside but the people meeting was great and we had a fantastic time! Now, we are busy working on our September calendar. We have about 3 and a half hours before tonight’s class…surely we can finish it….well, we do have a tendency to chat while working on it….
Here we go Columbia….school starts! As a self proclaimed summer lover I have to admit that I get a little sad when school starts because it means the end of careless bedtimes and late night laughter from my kiddos not to mention swimming and boating but I am excited for this school year to start! We opened up here at The Canvas as last school year closed out. No one really even knew we existed until summer had began. This school year we hope to get involved and be known!
We plan on having kids classes for the crazy early release days and extra “no school” days so all you moms can have something for your kiddos to do. We are switching Saturday’s classes to be kid friendly at both 10am and 2pm so you can still find time to come and get your paint on even after soccer and football and scouts and all those other school activities begin. We want to be the premiere birthday party destination for all our school age kids and will continue to offer party packages on Saturday’s and after school hours.
We also want to welcome in the college crowd! We think the student body and Mizzou, Columbia College, Stephens, Westminster, William Woods, and Central Methodist would love an evening out or even a date night at a painting class. And lets not overlook all the activities we have planned around Mizzou home football game weekends! We are so excited it is not even funny!
I have great plans to pump out some new paintings over the next week so the September calendar will be loaded with new stuff and we hope to see all of your faces in a class! Make sure you like us on Facebook, we will have a promotion for the month of September that we will announce on Facebook so you won’t want to miss out on that (not to mention we want your “like” anyway!).
So here we are, 2 days into the school year and we are planning and getting ready and it is our one and only day completely off work and guess what Angie and I did….we painted! Thankfully we have wonderful husbands who are entertained by our painting and chitter chatter and bribed by a meal. Angie and I spent this beautiful day whipping up some new paintings out on the patio while our hubbies made some yummy BBQ and we all enjoyed our day off. Now watch out September….the new paintings are amazing! We can’t wait to see you all in class!
So we had an amazing weekend! Thank you to all who came out and painted! Friday night we enjoyed a fun class at 6:30 making some “Whimsy Wine” and then we capped the night off with a brand new late night painting “Peacock Feather”. We enjoyed a nice crowd, some awesome paintings and a lot of laughs!
Saturday Angie and I ran non-stop! We started with a couple of families in our 10am class painting the baseball and they surprised all the kids with tickets to the Cardinals game leaving right from The Canvas! Angie got to tell the kids the surprise. It was so great to see their reactions! We rolled right from that into a birthday party for Maggie and then a class short class with the “Olympics” painting. From there we enjoyed another birthday party and then painted “9th Stree”. I think the “9th Street” is both my and Angie’s favorite painting. It is a long one with lots of steps but my group were all troopers and their paintings turned out amazing! We couldn’t have cleared and reset the tables any faster as we enjoyed an almost sold out class at 9:30! The energy in the room was fantastic, the paintings were awesome, and the libations were flowing. We had a great day and truely enjoyed getting to meet each and every one of you who came out to paint!
Once again I feel the need to express my gratitude to our patrons and our amazing community. Our little studio has been welcomed and loved and Angie and I are so thankful for the opportunity we are given to put a little art ineveryone’s lives. It truely does make the heart happy to paint. If you haven’t been down and tried it out yet….you are missing out! I promise you won’t be sorry!
Enjoy the last bit of the Olypics and if you want to paint a commemorative painting we will be doing “The Olympics” again this weekend! Stay cool, keep throwing the painitng suggestions my way, and come back again, and again, and again, and again!!!!
Summer is flying by! We have figured out our summer schedule and managed to work in a few trips to the lake (yes, Angie and I work and play together) and now it is almost time for school to start! I have always loved summer. I am an outside and sunshine kind of girl. I like summer sports, summer food, summer tans, summer staying up late and sleeping in, summer cocktails, summer in general! So school starting usually gets me down a bit but this year I’m feeling excited! We have so many great ideas to incorporate at The Canvas this fall and into the holiday season that I am kind of excited! We are about to celebrate our 4 month anniversary and we are still loving every second. Our kids classes have really picked up and our evening classes are full of lively people! I can’t say enough how appreciative we are of all of your patronage!
I know I say in every blog post that I am going to do better at posting more often, I mean it, I really do, but I gotta admit if I get a free evening I am usually painting rather than typing so please don’t take offense! Hey, feel free to rib me a bit…tonight a great customer stopped in after class to say hello and mentioned that she likes reading our blog and that was enough to prompt me to come home and type a little bit! Thanks Nicole! Moving into our first Mizzou football season and our first school year, and our first set of holidays we are open to any and all suggestions you may have! We love what we do and we want you to love to join us in the studio. Send us an email, post on our Facebook, or comment on our Blog, we love feedback and ideas!
Well, not only am I slow at blog posts but I am WAYYYYY behind on the newsletter so I better wrap this up and get onto that! (Hint, Hint, if you haven’t subscribed to our newsletter yet you better get on it…lots of great info to come there!) Stay cool, enjoy the last bits of summer vacation, and talk to us!
Okay, so I am so very delinquent in my blog posts! I apologize! We have been so super busy and loving every second of it! We have almost 3 months under our belts and we are in a groove! We have had big classes, small classes, birthday parries, bachelorette parties, baby showers, wedding showers, and birthday bashes. We have painted lots of images and met lots of people and the crazy thing is that we have really just scratched the surface! Every week (actually more like every day) Angie and I think of more things we can do, more subjects to paint, and more fun to have. We are having a ball and couldn’t be happier. I have to say that I think we have the best jobs in town! If you haven’t been in to paint yet you have to come down. I know you will love it. If you have been once, keep watching our Facebook and web site as we will be adding new paintings every week!
We have had a paper on the counter for our customers to write down painting suggestions. I have to admit, we have some creative customers! The ideas have been great and I just wish that I had more hours in the day to paint them all. About once a week Angie and I sit and talk and create paintings (over a glass or two of wine) and dream up new things to inspire all of you with. Some people may refer to it as research or prep work but really it is a lot of fun for us. It seams like everywhere we go we are looking for painting ideas, thank goodness for cell phone cameras!
Well, I am in between classes and just realized how terrible I have been about keeping you all updated so I figured I would drop a line and remind you to get down to The Canvas! I promise, promise, promise to blog again before we hit month 4! (but I probably won’t get another one in this week as I have to write the newsletter too…if only I could paint the blog and newsletter….)
Happy 4th of July!
Steph
