We are in the studio when there is an event shown on the CALENDAR on our website.
Hello…. you are going to a painting class where alcohol is served! Expect to have a wonderful time!
You will be guided through the steps of creating an 11” x 14” or a 16” x 20” piece of artwork while enjoying breaks along the way filled with laughter, music to make you dance and plenty of time to order another drink. We normally instruct with the same colors as show in the sample painting, but you are more than welcome to pick your own colors for the entire painting. At the end of the night you will leave with your own masterpiece. Our paints dry fast to the touch but you will want to be careful on the way home as it usually takes 2 to 3 days for a painting to fully cure.
CLASS TYPES & COST:
We have a class for everyone!
Our evening classes, Wednesday through Saturday at 6:30 are $35 per painting guest and include a 16” x 20” canvas. The 6:30 class will last 2-2.5 hours.
Saturday classes are at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM are $20 and include an 11” x 14” canvas.
We also have a late night class on Friday and Saturday nights at 9:30 PM. For $20 you get a painting lesson on an 11” x 14” canvas. The Saturday classes and the late night classes last around 2 hours.
We have them. Visit the “GROUP EVENTS” page on our website for all of the information.
Go to our “CALENDAR” and click on the”sign up” tab below the painting you are interested in. Our registration screen will pop up where you can sign up for your seats. We only use this information to hold your reservation and would only charge you online if you failed to show up or cancel your reservation. Otherwise, we take full payment when you arrive for the class.
The paintings start at the scheduled times so please arrive at least 15 minutes early so you can get signed in, grab a drink and find a seat.
Our studio holds up to 62 painters so we love groups and will make your outing one to remember! If possible, please have ONE person sign up for the class. We require a credit card to hold your reservation but take payment in the studio so everyone can pay separately when they arrive. If everyone is signing up individually, please make sure to note your reservation in the comment section with one common name so we can have your group seated together. If you are interested in a private event at The Canvas, please check out our private party requirements that are available on the “GROUP EVENTS” page.
Basically, if there is an event that is open to the public on our calendar then we are in the studio and you are more than welcome to come in a paint on your own. If you are lucky, one of our instructors might be wandering around to offer you guidance but we can’t guarantee special assistance. The cost to paint is the same as the scheduled painting and we highly encourage you to sign up online if you are interested in attending a class.
DON’T WANT TO PAINT?
Well…you will be the one missing out! Once you see how the class works we know you will definitely want to paint on your next visit! If there are seats available at the painting tables you are more than welcome to sit with other painters. Otherwise, you can sit at the bar or at the table in the front of the studio.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Something comfortable. For all of you fashionistas, we will provide aprons, but keep in mind that we use acrylic paints and it does NOT come out of clothing.
ARE KIDS WELCOME?
We don’t want to exclude anyone, but our evening classes will be full of adult conversation and flowing libations. For this reason, we only allow older children who are accompanied by an adult at our 6:30 PM and 9:30 PM sessions. We welcome the younger bunch, accompanied by an adult, to participate at The Canvas during our morning and afternoon classes. Please check out our calendar for different types of children and family oriented classes. We also love to host birthday parties for your little ones. Availability is found on our calendar and information is found on the “KIDS CANVAS” page.
HOW OLD IS OLD ENOUGH?
All children are not created equal so sometimes this is hard to answer. Attention span and motor skills play a big role in their success. Most of our classes take around 90 minutes to 2 hours. For the little ones, we sketch out the basic outline to make it a little easier for them. If you have a child that loves to paint, can follow basic instruction and can hold their attention throughout the class, they will have fun. Don’t forget that we do the paintings one step at a time and there are periods of drying time where they have to wait for a few minutes before moving on to the next step so patience is a must.
LOCATION & PARKING:
We are located right on Broadway between 7th and 8th street so you can basically heel-toe it to the rest of your downtown activities. Being in The District, we obviously have a few HUGE parking garages within walking distance. Also, street parking is free after 6:00 PM. Boone County National Bank has a parking lot directly behind our building that is also free after 6:00 PM.
Definitely! They can be purchased in the studio, by phone or online. Our gift certificates can be used for any available scheduled class and are non-refundable. We think they are the best gift around! Need them mailed? No problem. For a $2.00 fee, we will mail them to you! Purchased gift certificates do not expire.
Our goal is to put up our calendar 6 weeks in advance, but as artists, we tend to procrastinate so we promise to give you at least 4 weeks notice. If you are planning ahead, email or call us anytime and we will accommodate your reservation and we might even ask your opinion on what painting to offer!!
We understand that conflicts arise. Because we have limited seating, if you let us know at least 24 hours in advance we will give you a refund or help you reschedule. Don’t forget, email is always the best way to contact us! For private events and Kids Canvas birthday parties, we require a two-week cancellation.
BAD WEATHER CANCELLATIONS:
If you need to cancel due to bad weather or dangerous driving conditions you will not be charged for the class as long as you notify us via email that you will not be attending the class.
We have Beer, Wine, Mimosa, Soda Pop, Water, and Tea offered at reasonable prices.
BYOB and other outside beverages are not allowed due to our insurance and liquor license.
Email is always the best! Our hours in the studio are not quite “normal” so reaching us by phone is not always best. Thanks to modern technology, email catches us when we are on the run! Info@thecanvasonbroadway.com
